Chris Bruynzeel

Lead pastor

Chris was born in San Jose, CA (Bay Area) and spent the first 12 years of his life in that area. In 8th grade, his grandparents (Wycliffe Bible Translators) took them to Brasilia, Brasil for 2 years; an amazing experience in Chris's life. Moving back to the US, he went to high school in Huntington Beach, then headed off to Biola University where he graduated with a degree in Social Sciences with a History emphasis and Bible minor. After college, Chris spent the next 2 years getting ministry experience at Mt Hermon, Peninsula Bible Church South, and EvFree Walnut Creek. He met his wife, Renee, during his internship in '91 and they were married in '92.

Over the seminary years at Talbot School of Theology, Chris coached college & high school soccer and was on staff with Missionary Athletes International (sports evangelism). After 2 years as a public high school history/government teacher and coach, he re-entered church ministry in ’98 at EvFree Walnut Creek (now NorthCreek Church). After almost 8 years  as Jr. High Director, Student Ministries Pastor, and Lifestage Pastor, the Bruynzeels relocated to SoCal, joining the staff at EvFree Conejo Valley (now The Bridge in Newbury Park) as Associate Pastor. God brought them to Moorpark in July 2012, and due to God’s blessing, The Bridge Moorpark was able to re-launch as an independent church this past January 2016.

Chris and Renee have been married almost 25 years and are blessed with two amazing kids—Taylor (19) and Jake (16). They also have a dog, Max, and they love all 85lbs of his hyper, slobbery chunkiness. Chris loves to hang out with Renee, harass his kids, drink strong coffee with a good book, meet friends at Starbucks or Panda Express, watch soccer & football, hit the beach/surf, go mountain biking, as well as being a part of the life group on Thursday nights and our incredible church. The Bruynzeels have been so overjoyed and honored to be a part of this amazing church family and Chris is incredibly thankful for the privilege of being the lead pastor at The Bridge Moorpark!

sam mayhew

Sam was born and raised in Fillmore, the middle child of five kids. His parents

were believers and attended the First Presbyterian Church as a family. Sam remember s loving Jesus from an early age, was active in church youth activities, but it was when he was 19 that God convicted him of his sin and showed Sam His grace through His Word (Ephesians 2:1-10). It was then that he knew that he was saved. Sam graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (the only true Cal Poly campus) in 1974 with a B.S. degree in Agricultural Business Management.

Sam has worked in the Ventura County lemon packing industry for 42 years, and is currently the General Manager of Oxnard Lemon Company. He and his wife, Ann, have lived in Moorpark for 21 years and have two children - Josh (age 26) and Hannah (age 24 and married to Ryan). They attended The Bridge

Newbury Park for two years before coming to The Bridge Moorpark in 2012.

Sam is now working part time and enjoying more time with his wife. In addition to traveling with Ann, he enjoys gardening, hiking and reading.

Patrick lacanfora

Patrick was born and raised in SoCal by a single mom with five other brothers and sisters (one of his little brothers died of cancer two years ago). He was raised Catholic and, as a teen, was blessed with the influence from his friends' families who poured into his life by showing him God’s love. As a result Patrick was saved during high school at 16 years old. Also, at that time Martin Luther’s book “Here I Stand” impacted him greatly.

Patrick graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and married his wife Kathleen in 1991. Together they have raised two children, Brianna (22) and Ryan (19), here in Moorpark and been involved with EV Free Newbury Park / The Bridge since 1994. He is currently the Vice President of Engineering for Crissair Inc., an aerospace company in Santa Clarita. His hobbies include hanging and having fun with my wife and kids, studying the scriptures, bicycle riding, cooking, and classic books.

Scott voorman

Scott was brought up in a Christian home by Godly parents who have shown others their faith by what they do. (James 2) He confessed Jesus as his Lord at age 16 and has sought to serve Him his entire life. Scott's first priority is to be a faithful servant and steward. His parents paid to send him to a Christian school where he had Christian teachers and mostly Christian friends. He met his wife, Lynn Adele, at Calvin College and they married before Scott started medical school. He and his wife have been happily married 38 years and enjoy life together. They are both avid readers and like snow skiing, water skiing, and hiking. The Voormans have two married children and three grandchildren.

Scott's calling as a physician continues to be a blessing to him and he hopes to continue for many more years. He has enjoyed serving in other countries and may increase this as time allows. Scott has served as an Elder in the past at The Bridge Moorpark, serving with both former pastors and many wise elders. He has been a discussion leader in Bible Study Fellowship (interdenominational Bible study) and is currently in the BSF study of John. He has been involved and has led several evening life groups. Scott currently serves alongside a group of men sharing leadership of the Men’s Ministry.

Scott is happy to serve the church alongside the other elders and Pastor Chris. One of his greatest joys was the baptism last summer. God is doing great things here in Moorpark!
